Celebrate the Magic of Midsummer

Midsummer in Sweden is more than a holiday—it’s a cherished celebration of nature, tradition, and togetherness. Imagine a day filled with the scent of fresh flowers, the warmth of laughter, and the melodies of joyful song. Here at Swedish Country Living, we invite you to immerse yourself in the magic of this extraordinary time.

A Feast for the Senses

Swedish traditions revolve around food, and Midsummer is no exception. Our smorgasbord is a culinary journey: savor the delicate flavors of salmon, prawns, and pickled herring, alongside other timeless specialties. Gather with us under the shade of a grand oak tree, its branches swaying gently over a long table dressed with crisp linen, as we enjoy a leisurely outdoor lunch overlooking the serene waterfront.

Dancing and Celebration at Upperud

After lunch, we’ll venture to the vibrant Midsummer festivities at Upperud. Here, the rhythm of folk music fills the air as dancers in traditional costumes perform intricate steps that have been passed down through generations. It’s a colorful, joyous spectacle that captures the heart of Swedish culture.

Games and Evening Delights
Returning home, there’s time to play kubb, a beloved Swedish lawn game that’s perfect for gatherings. Whether you’re a seasoned player or learning for the first time, the friendly competition adds a playful touch to the evening.

As the day transitions into night, we gather by the outdoor kitchen overlooking the water for dinner. The menu is a celebration in itself: a traditional Swedish barbecue featuring fresh farm ingredients and the irresistible allure of wood-fired pizza, customizable with your favorite toppings. The mingling aromas of smoky barbecue and bubbling pizza create a feast that’s as memorable as the company.

A Night to Remember
As the festivities wind down, you’ll retreat to your charming Hermitage cabin nestled in the woods. The cozy warmth of your cabin is the perfect end to a day of celebration. But before you rest, honor an enchanting Swedish tradition: pick seven wildflowers, place them under your pillow, and dream of your future partner.

Join us for a Midsummer celebration that blends tradition, community, and the beauty of Sweden’s natural landscapes. It’s a day—and night—you’ll never forget.

What is the Midsummer celebration about?

With roots in pagan times, Midsummer is a celebration of the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, but it is also a celebration of life and love. The celebration involves a lot of food and flowers, so preparations start early in the day with cooking and picking wild flowers.
